1. Start backwards
Instead of trying to advertise from the get-go, you need to understand your customer.
Answer these 5 questions before you write any ad.
Who is my product is for?
What are my customers goals, desires, incentives, problems, and pain points and what is the emotion or experience you sell?
Where are your customers?
When is the time in which customers feel the need to buy?
Why would someone buy this product?
Once you can confidently answer these 5W’s you can move to step #2.
2. Obsess over your headline
The 2 biggest mistakes advertisers make:
Assume people care
Assume they have time
Your job: Make them care at a moment's glance.
Obsess over getting people’s attention.
There is ONLY one job your headline has:
Get people to read the first sentence of your copy.
3. Collect ads like rich people collect art
The worst thing you can do when coming up with a new ad idea:
Stare at a blank page.
The more ads you collect, the more inspiration you have to draw from.
When it’s time to cook up a new ad idea, scroll through your swipe file.
Here are some tips:
Have a place where your team can share ads (e.g. Google Drive, Foreplay, or Dropbox)
Visit the Meta ads library or TikTok ads library for more inspo
Save ads that catch your eye and make you buy
4. Make ads that don’t look like ads
Golden Rule: The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing.
We’ve gotten so used to ads we ignore most of them.
And we remember ~1% of all the ads we see.
The more you make your ad stand out, the more memorable it will be.
5. Creative is king, treat it that way
“The greatest asset to any man is his mind.” - Robert Kiyosaki
Don’t cut corners when it comes to creative.
Never judge an idea before you have the chance to see it through.
Always give your mind the freedom to wonder.
And ALWAYS write down an idea - no matter what.
The formula I use for all my ads is simple, I ask 4 questions:
Can I visualize it?
Can I falsify it?
Can nobody else say this?
Does this make me feel something?
Does this bring value, solve a problem, accomplish a goal, or raise status?
5 out of 5 = killer ad
3-4 out of 5 = solid ad
1-2 out of 5 = try again
Let these 5 questions guide every ad you make and you'll take things to another level.
That's all for today.
See you in your inbox on Wednesday for more!
