Advertising is a means of communication through a paid medium.
Boring. Simple. True.
At its core, it is just communication. And the greatest, most valuable skill any advertiser needs to learn is the ability to write. But not just write any advert.
You must be able to write visually, simply, rhythmically, and persuasively. It. Is. Hard.
Yet, here we stand, in a world faced with technology at our fingertips, and writing is still just as, if not more, important as it was thousands of years ago.
Although I might say this, you might not believe it. So let me share why this skill is so vital.
You might think, "Why should I learn to write? AI can do it for me." It can. But how do you prompt a machine to speak like you, write like you, and understand you?
By learning to write.
There's a catch-22 though: you don't learn to write through theory. You learn by doing.
"But Carson, I don't know where to write?"
I can't believe I still here this, but I do. So here's some places you can write when you're looking to get started:
A journal
Any social media platform
A blog (like this one)
A Newsletter
A blank piece of looseleaf paper
There's 5 to get you started. Just. Start.
You will get better. You will learn. And you will grow.
The more you write, the more you know how to write to keep people reading.
Just write and don't stop. After that, your advertising will start to take form.
